MILAN HILL STATE PARK REDEVELOPMENT PROJECT
AUGUST 2008 UPDATE
One yurt down, three to go! Actually, one yurt has gone up on Milan Hill, not down. The Milan Hill State Park Redevelopment Project is well under way with the Student Conservation Association New Hampshire Conservation Corps (SCA NHCC) members working in the park since mid June, and continuing to work through mid October.
Before the yurts arrived in the park from Colorado, the crew was hard at work prepping the sites for building. Trails to the sites and the sites themselves were cleared, unusable pit toilets were closed and other toilets were repaired for future use, and the sites were studied for optimum yurt placement for views and solitude. The first platform and deck for the yurt to be placed on at site three was completed in early July with the help of State Park carpenters. The mulberry colored yurt was erected by the end of the month and work has begun on the next site and platform.

Now that the first yurt is complete, State Parks and the crew anticipate the next three will go up swiftly and smoothly. Progress on the fourth yurt is awaiting the completion of Forest and Lands’ timber operations on Milan Hill sometime in August. Staff has also taken initial steps on the repairs to the water system and replacing the septic system servicing the bathhouse.
